Dixon Rand is proud to introduce our latest One of a Kind Creations. An appreciation for authenticity and things that have a rugged natural beauty are reflected in each and every piece.
Crafted in Wyoming, these hatbands are made using an antique photographing process known as cyanotype. Cyanotype is an antique photographic process, using the sun to expose images on paper--or in my case fabric. Feathers and flowers and other found objects are arranged on fabric, which has been pre-treated with ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide. The fabric actually starts out as a light olive green color. Once the objects arranged in a design, the fabric exposed (or baked) to the sun. After exposure, 20-60 minutes, the objects are removed and the fabric washed. Everything the sun touches deepens to dark indigo blue leaving behind a white negative of the objects used.
Each piece is hand designed with ethically sourced feathers, ferns, flowers and such. Then each band is exposed to the sun to create the images you see. The leather is reclaimed.
-Hatbands measure 19.5" long, 1.5"wide, and the ties are 6" on each side
