About the Class
Join Scott Horn aka The Unsaddled in a fast paced jaunt through the basics of turning a simple piece of cowhide into a Wearable piece of Art. Each participant will walk away having created something unique- a wrist cuff, kerchief slide, key fob, or bookmark. Scott's passion for the craft of leatherwork is brought to life with a high-energy interactive teaching style. Technique is mixed with anecdotes about the history, production, and process of crafting saddle leather. The Workshop is centered on creative expression, teaching not only the craft skills but including the concepts of how to design your own unique patterns. The artists' large personal collection of leather stamp tools are shared with an emphasis on simple patterns. It's an afternoon of creative collaboration.
About the Artist
A lifelong artist & creative, Scott Horn dabbled in sculpture and mixed media work until he inherited his grandfather Milt Horn's set of leatherworking tools in 2009. Totally self-taught, he has developed a one-of-a-kind visual style defined by detailed illustration, geometric patterning, and sculptural folding of heavy full grain cowhide. Scott began teaching Workshops at Oil and Cotton in 2010 and has continued ever since. A Santa Fe resident since 2020, Scott has continued to hone his craft to include a variety of art to wear leather collectibles.
