Quilt Vest- Whirling Log Serpent

Please notify me when this product is available:

From the Limited Edition Range Tailor Quilt Collection. Inspired by a Brown's Beach style, this Vest is crafted from a Vintage 20s American Quilt in a Whirling Log pattern. The back is accented with a Chain Stitch embroidered Serpent (Garter Snake to be exact) and the Chinese Characters for Snake.

This quilt pattern has significant historical roots as tied to Navajo Native American culture. In Navajo iconography, it's called a "Whirling Log," and can denote abundance, prosperity, healing, and luck. It is an ancient religious symbol originating from the Indian subcontinent, that generally takes the form of an equilateral cross. It is considered to be a sacred and auspicious symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism and dates back at least 11,000 years. Unfortunately in the European historical context, the swastika is a hard symbol to love, seeming so inextricably tied to Nazi Germany. But its use as a sacred symbol, by various cultures, dates back centuries before the rise of Adolf Hitler and the comparatively brief reign of terror known as the Third Reich.

Specific design details include hand dyed leather covered snap buttons and a cinched back. Selvedge taped seams. A true collectible statement piece that can be dressed up or down. Please email us for more specific measurements on this one of a kind piece.
